Spin a Catboy Skill Tree

Account-wide nodes that should not eat your first 50B pack.

Skill Tree Guide

The Skill Tree is the sixth line of the official how-to-play list, which means Mugpugs considers it core, not a late-game extra. It is also the easiest system to waste. Players open it, see a glowing luck node, and dump the bankroll that should have bought a 50B pack. This page is the spending order that keeps the tree in its lane.

If your Base still has empty slots, close the tree and finish getting started. Nodes multiply what you already earn. They do not replace Catboys.

What the tree is for

Think of three buckets:

  • Income nodes raise cash from placed Catboys and from the Base. These are the first purchases.
  • Luck or pack nodes help future opens. Buy them when you are about to spend on Eclipse or 50B crates, not while you are still filling commons.
  • Offline or cap nodes raise what you can collect after a break. Pair them with offline earnings.

Exact node names can shift with patches. The rule does not: buy the cheapest node that affects every Catboy you already placed. Skip cosmetic or niche branches until Secrets exist on the plot.

First five purchases

  1. The cheapest global cash multiplier.
  2. A second income node if it is still cheap relative to one pack.
  3. An offline cap or collect-speed node if you actually log out between sessions.
  4. A luck node immediately before your first planned Eclipse or 50B open.
  5. Nothing. Bank 50B.

That fifth step is the one people skip. A Skill Tree that is three nodes deep and a plot that is broke will lose to a tree that is one node deep and an Eclipse pack in the shop.

How the tree stacks with other systems

Base upgrades are plot-local. Catboy upgrades are unit-local. The tree is account-local. Buy them in that order: land, unit, account. If you invert it, you multiply a tiny number.

2X CASH (59 Robux) stacks with income nodes during paid sessions. LUCK (119) stacks with luck nodes when you open. Neither pass replaces the tree. Auto Skip does not stack with anything except your patience.

Mutation Hunter does not belong in the Skill Tree conversation. It is a 799 Robux pass. If a node mentions mutations, read the mutation ranking before you feed it.

Resetting and respecs

Mugpugs has not advertised a free respec in the public description. Assume points are sticky. That is why this guide tells you to buy cheap and wide. A wrong 50B node is a scar.

If a future update adds a reset, we will put it on latest updates. Until then, screenshot your tree after each session so you remember what you already own. Six-player servers make it easy to peek at a richer neighbor’s plot; they cannot show you their tree. Do not copy a flex that might be 80% gamepasses.

Session template

  • Collect offline cash.
  • Open at most one planned pack. See how to open packs.
  • Place and upgrade the unit if it deserves a slot. See upgrade the Base.
  • Buy one tree node only if it is cheaper than 20% of your 50B target.
  • Leave.

The tree should feel boring. Boring means it is working. If the tree is the most exciting click in your session, you are using it as entertainment instead of as a multiplier, and the Catboy tier list will not save a starved plot.

Codes such as ILOVECATS can dump enough cash to tempt a shopping spree. Spend the grant on packs and land first. The tree gets the leftover, not the jackpot.

When you are ready to hunt Secrets, put a luck node in just before the crate, then go to how to get Secrets. That is the only time the tree should feel like a gacha item.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What should I buy first on the Skill Tree?

The cheapest global income node, and only after the Base has Catboys on it.

Should I max luck before income?

No. Luck matters right before Eclipse or 50B packs. Income matters every second, including offline.

Can I reset Skill Tree points?

The public description does not promise a respec. Buy cheap and wide until an update says otherwise.

Do gamepasses replace the tree?

No. 2X CASH and LUCK stack with nodes; they do not skip them.

When do I stop buying nodes?

Whenever the next node costs a serious chunk of a 50B pack. Bank the pack first.
